After 81 hours and well over 800 vaccinations, a Christmas vaccination marathon came to an end on Monday evening in Duisburg.
The initiator was the neurologist Ahmad-Mujtaba Mostakiem, who and his team had invited to the campaign in a three-shift system in a hotel near Duisburg Central Station.
He speaks of a complete success.
People who were vaccinated could come without registering.
"In the end we ran out of Biontech vaccine," Mostakiem told the German Press Agency. The medic is proud. "Even at night we vaccinated." Among the guests were whole families who were with relatives in Duisburg over Christmas. "90 percent of the people came who had not yet managed to get vaccinated due to lack of time because of their job or studies," said the neurologist. Some of the people thanked them with pralines, chocolate, sparkling wine or fruit baskets.
Since Christmas Eve there have been more than 100 first-time vaccinates among the guests.
"The rate was significantly higher than usual."
The doctor was confused about the many people who wanted to be vaccinated from the Netherlands, whom he had to send away despite the long journey.
»I am only allowed to vaccinate Dutch people who are resident in Germany or who have health insurance in Germany.
I had to make that clear in an interview with Dutch television, «said Mostakiem after the offer had spread to the neighboring country.
