After Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama Hacohen demanded that artist David Rib's work "Jerusalem" be removed from the walls of the Ramat Gan Museum of Israeli Art, claiming it hurts emotions, the artist and the Association for Civil Rights petitioned the court against the decision - and this morning (Monday) the district court ruled Prohibits in a temporary restraining order the removal of the work. In addition, an urgent hearing on the petition was scheduled for another two days.

However, the mayor of Ramat Gan, Carmel, whose mother decided to remove the work despite the interim order. "The work that despises Jerusalem, the Western Wall and the ultra-Orthodox has been removed and in fact despises us all," he wrote on Facebook. "As early as yesterday, the work was removed so that any temporary restraining order against its removal has no practical significance until a different decision.

Advocate Dan Yakir, the legal advisor of the Association for Civil Rights, welcomed the court's decision: "We hope that in the urgent hearing scheduled for the next day, an unequivocal message will be sent to mayors and all elected officials that any political intervention in artistic content is improper."

At the end of the week, Carmel Shama published a post in which he called for the removal of the work "Jerusalem," in which, along with a picture of the ultra-Orthodox praying at the Western Wall, the sentences "Jerusalem of gold" and "Jerusalem of shit" are written. He added: "Freedom of expression is the soul of our face, until it threatens to become the freedom of provocation and contempt. Probably where it begins to receive an aroma of racism. Jerusalem is a symbol. It is in the heart of every Jew and sacred to all religions. The injury and stopped visiting the museum because of this work.Creepy just to think what we would feel and do if this work was in a museum in Poland, Germany or France.

"Ramat Gan regrets its flag of sane and balanced liberalism, but not offensive and certainly not suicidal. Everyone who has visited has seen that the exhibition has quite a few provocative works, but evokes feelings of debate without degrading any national symbol, sanctuary or sector. Ramat Gan did not build a museum It will be huge and she will not subsidize it every year so that her children and others will be exposed to the language of sewers. "

Shama approached the residents and in a special Facebook poll asked them to decide whether to order the removal of the work or not.

Shama's deputy, Advocate Roy Barzilai, who also serves as chairman of the museum that reopened last week, has expressed strong opposition to removing the work.
