Kan Am Commander changes direction and turns from a tool with a sporting purpose to one that mainly wants to be a tool for hiking and working with the option of expanding fun in the field. How much does it cost and how does it travel?

Kan Am Commander 2022 (Assaf Rahamim, Eran Shlomo)

Before we tell you about the new tool, you should go back more than a decade and remember the first commander that appeared in the air in 2010 as an answer (mostly) to the RZR or as it is called "Razor" from Polaris but of course as part of the SBS wave that swept the area.

The Commander then came in two models, the 800R and the 1000X that produced (respectively) 71 and 85 horsepower from the Rotex engine.

The Canadian commander was meant to compete literally, both on the ground and in the sales halls with Polaris' American hit that then dominated unchallenged.

The Commander, according to its contents, is intended to be used as a sporting offense tool, pure pan, ironing and tackling technical obstacles quickly and easily or in short, a powerful and fast off-road machine for fast trails or technical challenges.

The Commander did a good job in both areas and gave a worthy fight and even more than that to Razer and Israel he came in 2012 and marketed here for a number of years.

When the first Kan-Am Maverick (2013) and especially the crazy X3 took the storm, the Commander actually became redundant in terms of the importer in the country and its imports were stopped, while the world continued to produce and sell it until the very last year.

Now comes its second generation and in one sentence it can be said that except for the name that has been preserved, it is an all-new tool, completely different in every field from its predecessor, both in terms of shape, design, assemblies and especially the purpose.

Kan-am Commander: Introduction

The new Commander is produced in five models, while two of the five, the XT and the XT MAX, arrive in Israel (at least at this stage), the same tool in two vehicle configurations, for two years and four passengers.

A 1,000 cc Rotex engine in a V-Twin configuration, producing 100 horsepower, 28-inch tires with separate suspensions for each wheel with a 38 cm stroke and a 33 cm ventral clearance, an endless list of options for additional accessories (over 150 accessories), sporty Bucket seats, half doors, half windshield (can be easily removed), roof, WARN winch, dynamic electric steering wheel to adjust its rigidity to driving and road conditions, and a large lifting box (lever) that most of all testifies to the new Commander 2022 designation - Get the Touring Car - Can Am's New Job.

Outstanding employee, gifted hiker

Despite the outward resemblance to the Maverick series, the new Commander is a pure hiking and work tool or like the cliché, if you want to compete in the Hermon-Eilat race, take Maverick, but if you want to enjoy the road, take Commander.

The new tool is placed between the Traxter which is a work net and a Maverick which is a Pan net at psychic levels.

The Commander can be a working horse for a mid-week farmer and a leisure hiking tool at the end along with the whole family.

The large cargo box, measuring 27X115X75, allows you to load tools or equipment into the field, such as a cooler, water and fuel tanks that are easily connected using the LinQ method.

Throughout the dozens of miles we traveled at launch, some of which were completely technical and challenging, in which all the crates were loaded with equipment, did not move, fell, swayed or flew anything from any vessel.

The road itself included the well-known route of the northern Judean Desert, from Ma'ale Adumim to Kedar, to the Monter (the goat mountain), the "balcony" observation point in front of the Marsaba, descent to the Hyrcanian Valley, St. George's Monastery and the lush Ein Prat, field trip On Talat a-Dam (through the blood) and the Good Samaritan knives and back to civilization.

Such a morning to afternoon includes a sumptuous breakfast in the field when all is prepared from the equipment carried in the utensils including means of cooking and sitting.

It is a spectacular area steeped in technical challenges, not-so-simple ups and downs all of which the tool easily took on board three people and equipment while most of the time in rear-wheel drive only.

For the peace of mind of the driver there are of course additional options of dual propulsion and locks (front viscose and electric rear) that will ensure the success of any obstacle, crossing and road without much effort.

The suspension work is excellent and the Commander easily and conveniently irons any obstacle and route.

Seating in the rear seats is comfortable (can be adjusted, including those sitting in the back) and entry and exit from the vessel into it is easy thanks to a comfortable entry threshold and wide doors.

Everything is fastened, made and well connected and there are no rattles or noisy or noisy plastics, even when the road is hard and bouncy.

So what did we have

More than a decade since the previous model, from the Commander only the name remains.

An all-new tool designed for work in agriculture and hiking or a real SUV for the whole family that makes and adapts to these needs in an excellent way.

Combat design, high quality, instrumentation options and endless additions.



Like all his teammates, this is not a cheap tool.

However, in relation to the price districts to which tools like Kan Am's X3 family have climbed, the handful of shekels required for it, ranging from NIS 140,000 to NIS 147,000, make it a multi-tasking tool, equipped, convenient for long journeys and capable of good value for money.
