Nobody likes to be left lying on the road with a flat tire.
A breakdown kit can be helpful here.
You can find out here whether a tire repair kit is even compulsory.
It is every driver's nightmare: while driving, the car suddenly stops or punctures.
In the event of a technical defect, usually only the ADAC or the towing service can help.
With a flat tire, a
tire
repair kit can be
very helpful
- or a spare wheel.
Neither the breakdown kit nor the spare wheel are required by law in Germany.
Nevertheless, a tire repair kit can help with minor damage to the tire in the short term.
But what do you have to consider?
First of all: You should definitely not do this if a nail is stuck in the tire. *
You should keep this in mind with the breakdown kit
In many new cars it is now part of the basic equipment: a tire repair kit instead of a spare wheel.
This can be
stowed very well in the trunk, weighs little
and thus counteracts increased fuel consumption.
A breakdown kit consists of a tire sealant and a compressor to inflate it.
This can be used to close smaller holes in the short term.
With this patched tire you can at least continue to the next workshop.
There is one big disadvantage with the breakdown kit:
In winter the tire sealant is very viscous
.
This can lead to the tire not being properly sealed, as the ADAC reports.
Breakdown kit: How to fix a flat tire
Repairing a flat tire with a breakdown kit is usually quite easy.
You can seal the broken tire in just
a few steps
.
But be sure to follow the operating instructions, according to the ADAC recommendation.
If the tire was damaged by an object such as a nail, it will remain in the tire.
Exception: The instructions for use from the breakdown kit manufacturer say otherwise.
Move the car so the tire valve is down.
Remove the valve cap and unscrew the valve core with the special tool.
Connect the compressor of the breakdown kit to the on-board socket and start the car.
Fill the sealant into the tire.
Use the compressor to create the required pressure.
When you have reached the correct tire pressure, switch off the compressor and remove the hoses from the valve.
When driving on, pay attention to the maximum speed of 80 km / h.
Just continue to the next workshop.
These alternatives to the breakdown kit are available
Tire repair kits are very easy to use, but not exactly cheap.
You have to reckon with around 50 euros.
Since you can only drive to the nearest workshop with a repaired tire,
a breakdown kit is not the best solution
.
Because the damaged tire has to be replaced anyway.
In addition, the rim has to be cleaned, which can be very time-consuming and costly.
If the tire has been treated with a tire sealant, professional repairs can no longer be carried out.
According to ADAC, the
tire spray is the inexpensive alternative to the breakdown kit
.
But here, too, there are some disadvantages: The tire pressure cannot be checked.
In addition, the amount of gas in the can is very limited, so that the optimal tire pressure cannot be set.
If the damage to the tire is greater, usually only the spare wheel will help.
The
run-flat tire makes a breakdown kit or tire spray superfluous
.
However, be sure to check the tire pressure regularly before using the spare wheel.
