Trailer for the second season of "Emily in Paris" (Netflix)

If everything went as planned, Kami Raza would be in the Middle East right now, covering some military confrontation. She aspired to work as a military reporter and then enrolled in a field of study program in the field, but just before that she decided to take a break and enroll in a course in acting. She liked this world, and the Frenchwoman decided to give up her old dream and try to develop a career on stage and on screens.

From there, things started to roll, and after a few years in the shadows, Raza gained an international breakthrough last year thanks to her appearance on "Emily in Paris," whose first season became a global sensation.

Raza plays Cami, whom Netflix's negligent Hebrew translation mistakenly calls Camille. As you may recall, the young Frenchwoman became in the first season the protagonist's best friend, who came to the City of Lights from Chicago. The friendship between them begins to stand the test when Emily falls in love with a handsome chef named Gabriel, who turns out to be her new girlfriend's partner.

The second season of the series, which aired recently and as expected also conquered the viewing charts, is marked by this love triangle, which becomes even more complex when Kami discovers that Gabriel has cheated on her with Emily, who in turn falls in love with a new guy - a Briton named Alfie.

"There is no girl whose partner has not betrayed her," Raza declares in a zoom interview held on the occasion of the series' rise.

"I'm sad to say, but it's true, and it's not a disaster either. Betrayal is not the end for me. Every relationship has its ups and downs, and it can always be corrected. For me, in order to maintain a relationship it is not enough to love the other side. the relationship".

This is a very French approach.

"Yeah, probably."

So many people are watching the series.

What impact would you like it to have?

"Since I made the series, I'm smiling a lot more. I hope it happens to other people too. For me the series is like a good meal with friends. Its purpose is to convey some joy of life to an audience during such a difficult time."

Like Cami, Raza is not originally from Paris, but from a town near Toulouse in the past she said that her geographical origin helps her not to fly on herself too much.

The actress' breakthrough was gradual, and her resume before "Emily in Paris" is rather sparse, but includes an interesting project from a Jewish point of view - a play called "The Blond Old Jew," in which she starred about three years ago. She played a young woman who got into a strange obsession - she starts acting like an elderly Holocaust survivor.

"This show is the most important thing I've done in my life," she says. "It's the hardest project I've done, and the one that has stuck with me the most passion. It's also the best thing I've done, and what's helped me grow the most as an actress."

And do you have anything left of the old Jew?

"Yes, sometimes when I walk down the street, I walk hunched over like old Jews. The Philippines, who plays Sylvie in the series, keeps laughing at me for being an old Jew."

Sylvie is generally Emily's boss, but this season she's getting closer to you.

"Yes, it's a kind of alliance of French women against American women. In a sense, this season can be called 'French against American women.'"

What do you say about your sons' criticism of the series and how it presents France?

"The series is intentionally exaggerated. There's no pretense here of representing Paris realistically. That's really not the point. However, almost every time the American screenwriters of the series tried to write dialogues in French, it sounded too artificial and weird, so I allowed myself to change that."

Soon we will probably see Raza star in a cinematic adaptation of the play, as well as in a variety of other projects, for example in the period drama "Diane de Potia", in which she will star alongside none other than Isabel Adjani and Gerard Depardieu.

In the meantime, she's busy with questions about the third season that is sure to come, and the future of the characters in the series.

"When the first season ended, I did not know how Cami would react if she found out the truth about Cami and Gabriel," she says.

"When I got the script and found out what her reaction was, I was very surprised."

"Of course I think Gabriel should choose Kemi and not Emily. Still, he is my man! I would prefer Emily to be mine too, but if she had to choose between Gabriel and Alfie, I would prefer Alfie. He is funny, and I will always prefer a funny man over a romantic man. ".
