Companies on Sylt are closing as a precaution due to the high number of cases

Several hotels and restaurants on Sylt have temporarily closed in view of the rapidly increasing corona numbers on the island. "Due to the numerous coronavirus outbreaks, more than 20 restaurants and hotels in Sylt have temporarily ceased operations or are taking their company holidays forward as a preventive measure in order to protect their employees and guests," said the managing director of Sylt Marketing, Moritz Luft. For tourism on Sylt, the spontaneous and early closings meant a reduction in the tourist offer in what was already a relatively quiet time. Because of an outbreak, none of the businesses in the Nordfriesland district were officially closed, as a district spokesman said.
On Sylt, the corona dynamic has been increasing steadily since Christmas, Luft said.
As in other places, this is probably due to parties at Christmas.
On December 26, there were 27 registered active corona cases among the population.
On January 9 - two weeks later - the Nordfriesland district reported 476 active corona cases for the island.
According to calculations by some local media, the extrapolated, officially not reported incidence on Sylt is currently over 1700, as Luft further announced.
The district itself does not calculate any incidences at the local level.

Knigge Society expects the handshake to return

The CEO of the German Knigge Society, Clemens Graf von Hoyos, firmly expects the handshake to return after the corona pandemic.
"The handshake will come again - this has already been shown in the last summer months, when the corona sensitivity was lower," said the behavior expert of the "Rheinische Post".
"And it shouldn't be any different in summer 2022," added Graf von Hoyos.
"We will also see kisses on the left and kisses on the right again, the so-called accolade." Overall, however, the pandemic has a negative effect on good behavior in the country.
So the "fuse" has become "very short" in general for many people.
Mexico's president fell ill with Covid-19 again

Mexico's head of state Andrés Manuel López Obrador has, according to his own statements, contracted the corona virus for the second time.
"Although the symptoms are mild, I will remain in isolation and only do office work and communicate virtually until I get through it," he wrote on Twitter.
Hours earlier, the 68-year-old without a face mask appeared in a hoarse voice in front of journalists.
He had announced that he would be tested for Covid-19, but believed he had the flu.
López Obrador survived a first corona infection in early 2021.
He is vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine and received a booster in early December.
Mexico, unlike many other countries, has kept its borders open throughout the pandemic and does not require incoming travelers to have tests or vaccinations.
According to official figures, however, more than 300,000 people have now died from the virus in the country.
