Most iPhone users know this:

SMS messages sent from Android devices are marked in Apple's iMessage messaging application in green, while text messages sent from iPhones are marked in blue.

Now, an article in the Wall Street Journal that dealt with the phenomenon has managed to annoy senior executives at Google.

The Wall Street Journal reported that iMessage, also used to receive regular text messages (SMS), has become a status symbol among teens in the U.S., creating social pressure on young people to buy Apple devices - and has sometimes led to the exclusion of Android users.

"iMessage is not supposed to benefit from bullying," the tweet said on the official Android page.

Hiroshi Lockheimer, head of Google's Android division, tweeted on his Twitter account: "Using social pressure and bullying as a means of marketing products does not make sense for a company that views humanity and equality as a key part of its values. Standards exist today to fix that."

Google's anger here is not mere nonsense, of course: the company will benefit greatly from Apple making iMessage available on its operating system, as one of the main reasons why the US has a relatively sparse transition of users between iPhones and Android compared to other countries, is the popularity of iMessage in the country.
