2021 was not an easy year for the auto industry.
Corona and the chip crisis resulted in falling sales.
Except for the electric cars.
Flensburg - Everything should get better in 2021.
After the 2020 corona pandemic hit the auto industry hard, the numbers should get better again last year.
But nothing came of it - thanks to the corona virus and lack of chips.
Instead of the hoped-for upswing, sales fell even further in 2021.
According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), only 2.62 million new cars were registered last year.
A minus of ten percent compared to 2020, as reported by 24auto.de.

The only bright spot for car manufacturers: the boom in vehicles with alternative drives continued in 2021 - thanks in part to bonuses.
The bottom line was that 325,449 plug-in hybrids (+ 62.3 percent) and around 356,000 all-electric cars (+83.3 percent) were registered.

This also has an effect on the share in the overall market.
Plug-in hybrids made up 12.4 percent of new registrations in 2021.
Pure electric cars made up 13.6 percent.
Meanwhile, the shares of gasoline (37.1 percent) and diesel (20 percent) fell compared to 2020.
New registrations continue to drop in 2021 - Tesla and Polestar are among the winners
Meanwhile, there is no surprise with the distribution of new registrations across the vehicle segments.
With 25.4 percent, SUVs are well ahead of the compact class (17.5 percent).
And the Golf is also defending its title as the most popular car among Germans with 91,621 new registrations.
The long-running favorite, however, has to give up and give in to the T-Roc more and more often.
With 57,424 new registrations, the SUV from Wolfsburg ranks second, followed by the VW Tiguan (55,527).
Nevertheless, like most manufacturers, Volkswagen has to cope with a decline compared to 2020.
However, there were a few exceptions.
Polestar (+153.2 percent) and Tesla (137.9 percent) recorded significant increases, and Suzuki, Smart, Porsche, Opel, Kia and Hyundai also increased.
