Tens of thousands of participants in

corona

demonstrations across Germany

3:29 a.m .:

In numerous German cities, tens of thousands of people took to the streets again on Monday evening to protest against the corona measures.

In Thuringia alone, almost 23,000 participants took to the streets at 93 mostly unregistered meetings.

In the districts of Görlitz and Bautzen there were almost 14,000 demonstrators.

According to police reports, the protests, which were often described as "walks," were mostly peaceful.

In isolated cases, the police intervened to prevent clashes with counter-demonstrators.

In Jena, for example, counter-demonstrators tried to block an elevator used by critics of the corona measures.

The officers then used "simple physical violence" and pepper spray to break up the blockade.

In Magdeburg, the security authorities once again broke up an unauthorized elevator by 850 critics of the measures.

Demonstrators apparently tried to break through police barriers.

Green politician warns of "false hopes" in the event of easing

2:15 a.m .:

The Green health politician Janosch Dahmen warned in the debate about easing corona measures against raising false hopes.

The development of opening perspectives should not be linked to a date, but must be guided by data on the current and future pandemic situation, Dahmen told the "Rheinische Post".

He named a daily hospitalization incidence, the occupancy of the beds in normal and intensive care units and the availability of staff in the healthcare system.

»We need a realistic perspective instead of raising false hopes.«

You have to plan ahead and not relax too quickly, argued Dahmen.

“In the next few weeks we will have to ensure that there is a corresponding data base.

On this basis, the Robert Koch Institute can then develop a corresponding step-by-step scheme, taking into account the recommendations of the Expert Council." The pandemic will also play a role in the coming months, which is why "various protective measures" are still needed.

Municipalities: »leeway« in the case of partial vaccination can be right

1:21 a.m .:

When implementing the partial vaccination requirement for clinics and nursing homes, the Association of Towns and Municipalities considers a “time extension” to be useful in certain cases.

"You shouldn't fundamentally question the obligation to vaccinate, but in justified exceptional cases it may be necessary to extend the time," said general manager Gerd Landsberg to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"If functionality or ongoing operations are at risk, it may be right to open up additional leeway here."

Bavaria announced on Monday that it would not implement the partial vaccination requirement for the time being, and argued, among other things, with concerns about a migration of nursing staff.

The law passed by the Bundestag and Bundesrat in December stipulates that employees in nursing homes and clinics must submit proof of being vaccinated or recovered by March 15th - or a certificate that they cannot be vaccinated.

Employers must inform the health authorities if this does not happen.

These may prohibit employment in the facility.

Landsberg said that in the concrete implementation there are now regional differences, some of which "hindered the timely execution".

“While social institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia sometimes report a vaccination rate of 97 percent among their staff, the situation appears to be different for many institutions in Bavaria.

The same should probably also apply to some East German federal states.«

Günther

: Countries should relax corona measures individually

12:05 a.m . :

Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) has spoken out in favor of the states being able to relax the corona rules independently of one another.

At the conference of prime ministers with the Federal Chancellor on February 16, Schleswig-Holstein will work to continue on the path taken back to normality, Günther told the editorial network Germany.

"This can also mean different speeds in the countries due to the different vaccination rates."

He sees the high vaccination rate in Schleswig-Holstein as justification for easing the measures.

“Even if there are reports of an increasing incidence nationwide every day, it must be clear: this data is of a different quality than a year ago.

This is due to the high vaccination rate in Schleswig-Holstein,” said Günther.

It was important to remain cautious to see if omicron becomes a big problem for the hospitals.

Now it is clear that this is not the case.

Now the focus must be on preventing serious illnesses in vulnerable groups and not every infection.
