Cardiovascular diseases: why women should also be screened

INTERVIEW – Professor Claire Mounier-Véhier, cardiologist at the University Hospital of Lille, recalls the importance of cardiovascular assessment for women, after forty years.


Claire Mounier-Véhier is the co-founder of the Agir pour le cœur des femmes endowment fund and initiated the Bus du cœur, which traveled across France to screen for cardiovascular disease in women in precarious situations.

In the presence of one or more risk factors (tobacco, diabetes, arterial hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, etc.), it is worthwhile, once a year, to have your blood pressure checked by your general practitioner in the lower limbs: if it is 10% lower than that found in the upper limb, an echo-Doppler is necessary.
