One car manufacturer after the other is renouncing the combustion engine - now also a Japanese manufacturer.

But the brand wants to make an exception.

Yokohama (Japan) – over.

The end.

Past.

The era of the internal combustion engine is clearly coming to an end.

The signs point to electric.

The number of cylinders has been shrinking for years, even in many of the manufacturers' sporty models.

This in turn seems to make high-powered super sports cars with twelve cylinders (or even 16 in the Bugatti Chiron) very attractive as an investment opportunity.

Not only the Bugatti Chiron equipped with 16 cylinders is sold out, but also the Lamborghini Aventador with a pure V12 engine - and even the V12 bolide Gordon Murray T.33 was in fixed hands shortly after its announcement.

Another car manufacturer has now decided not to develop combustion engines anymore - but the Japanese manufacturer is still leaving a loophole open, as reported by 24auto.de.

Japanese carmaker stops combustion engine development - with one exception

As "Nikkei Asia" reports, the Japanese carmaker Nissan wants to end the development of new combustion engines in all major markets - and instead focus on electric drives.

This is followed by the Japanese brands such as Volvo and Audi, which also no longer want to develop combustion engines.

The Japanese have already put the development of petrol engines for the European market on hold because the costs for developing such units under the Euro 7 emission standard would probably have become too high.

Nissan wants to change course - and above all to rely on electric cars, such as the Ariya.

Japanese carmaker stops combustion engine development - but not for the US market

However, Nissan is making an exception when it comes to the end of development for combustion engines: namely for vehicles intended for the US market.

According to "Nikkei Asia", petrol engines are to be further developed there to a "limited extent" - especially for the pick-up trucks that are in demand there.

However, Nissan wants to further optimize existing combustion engines – and engines for hybrid vehicles will continue to be developed.

According to the report, no job cuts are currently planned, despite the Japanese carmaker's course reversal.
