American musician Mark Langen has died at the age of 57

The esteemed American musician, who took part in the bands Queens of the Stone Age and Gutter Twins, has passed away and is only 57 years old.

American musician Mark Langen has passed away and is only 57 years old.

A statement from Langen's Twitter read: "Our dear friend Mark Langen passed away this morning at his home in Ireland. He was a beloved singer, musician and creator. We have no further information to share at this time. We wish to respect the family's privacy."

The cause of Langen's death was not disclosed although a year ago it was reported that he was suffering from kidney disease.

Langen, who was active in the alternative scene for nearly four decades, is considered one of the most esteemed artists in the scene, and among other things took part in the bands Queens of the Stone Age and Gutter Twins.

He also collaborated with the Twilight Singers of his Gatter Twins friend Greg Dolly, the Solsabers and the singer and cellist Isobel Campbell, with whom she also performed in Israel at the end of 2012.
