Used cars are becoming more and more expensive, and not just in Germany.
In the US, used Ford Rangers cost almost as much as a new pickup truck.
Tampa (USA) – If you are currently looking for a new car, you may have noticed.
Used car prices have skyrocketed.
And also because new cars - because of the lack of chips - have become rare.
The interest in used cars has therefore risen sharply recently and this is reflected in the price.
An example from the USA shows how extreme this can be.
A 2010 Ford Ranger is for sale on the used car platform CarMax, as reported by 24auto.de.
So far, so normal.
But when you look at the price, most interested parties will probably lose their coffee cups.
Twelve year old Ford Ranger for sale - at a hammer price
For the twelve-year-old Ford Ranger whopping 22,998 US dollars (around 19,668 euros) are required.
Admittedly, the pickup appears to be in good condition and has been put through its paces.
Still, the price seems a bit steep for a vehicle that has 84,000 miles on the clock.
(Used cars of this brand are older than others - and have the most damage)
This 12-year-old Ford Ranger retails for just under $23,000.

Especially since the Ford Ranger can't hide its age either.
The loading area protection has scratches and cracks.
And also the keys are dirty and worn out.
In addition, the vehicle offered does not have all-wheel drive.
For the same price you get a new Maverick – also only with two-wheel drive.
And a new Ranger XL is only slightly more expensive than this used model at 25,500 US dollars (around 22,478 euros).

Twelve-year-old Ford Ranger for sale - other old pickups are currently expensive
But this Ford Ranger from Tampa is not an isolated case.
There are numerous similar vehicles at CarMax - distributed all over the United States.
For example, in Salt Lake City, a lower mileage 2011 Ranger is available for around $25,000.

Even for a 2011 model with a mileage of 102,000 miles (approx. 164,153 km) CarMax still charges almost 19,000 US dollars (around 16,748 euros).
For comparison, Ford Rangers built in 2020 are only slightly more expensive at around 28,000 to 30,000 US dollars than many eleven or twelve year old vehicles and have usually run significantly less.
So it's worth waiting for the situation on the used car market to improve.
