A used Renault Clio is an affordable small car - most of them anyway.

Now a special example has been sold at a bargain price.

Chippenham (Great Britain) - The Renault Clio is a classic small car: the Frenchman has been on the market since 1990 - and is now in its fifth generation.

The vehicle was mostly fitted with three and four-cylinder engines.

For speed junkies or car collectors, a Clio is not usually the object of desire.

But now a special version of the small car came under the hammer - and brought the seller a tidy sum, as reported by 24auto.de.

The Renault that is now being auctioned off is a Clio V6 Phase 2. The vehicle is a sort of reminiscence of the legendary Renault 5 Turbo, which is also set to hit the road again in a spectacular restomod version.

The V6 phase 2 version differs from the "normal" Clio in terms of appearance: With an extreme widebody kit, this variant is significantly beefier.

But the fundamental difference to the Clio "off the peg" is of course the drive.

The Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 was only built around 1,300 times - now one copy has been auctioned off.

Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 auctioned - six-cylinder in mid-engine position

As the name suggests, the Phase 2 Clio is powered by a three-liter V6 engine.

The unit is no longer under the hood like in the standard brothers, but where the normal Clio has a back seat.

It is therefore a small car with a mid-engine layout

With its 255 hp, the Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 was the most powerful "hot hatch" in the world when it was introduced.

Only around 1,300 vehicles were produced - which of course makes the powerful French with 6-speed manual transmission something special.

It is traded accordingly high.

One example has now been auctioned off on the collectingcars auction platform – the “acid yellow” V6 Phase 2 fetched 90,000 British pounds (equivalent to just under 109,000 euros).

A proud sum when you consider that an ex-service Mercedes of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher recently went for just 27,600 euros - and even a white Ferrari Testarossa brought in "only" 119,200 euros.

The reason for the high price is, among other things, the excellent condition and the rare color, the low mileage of 17,270 miles (almost 28,000 kilometers).

The car was also ordered with the full leather package – an option that cost £3,900 (around €4,700) at the time.
