Xiaomi 12 Pro: the new flagship equipped with a triple 50 megapixel camera

Xiaomi has taken a step forward in the megapixel war to compete with the most powerful terminals on the market.

The new Xiaomi 12 Pro, presented globally this Tuesday, is equipped with a 50-megapixel triple rear camera.

The third manufacturer that sells the most mobile phones in the world —only behind Apple and Samsung— has also opted for ultra-fast charging to fill the phone's battery in just 18 minutes.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is a large mobile with a renewed design.

It measures 16.4 centimeters high, 7.5 centimeters wide and 8.1 millimeters thick and weighs 205 grams.

On its back, which sports a matte finish, all the prominence is taken by a large rectangular camera module that protrudes slightly.

It is crowned by the large main lens, and below it is joined by two other smaller sensors.

The phone will be available in grey, purple and blue at the end of March.

The 6.7-inch screen has an adaptive refresh rate that reaches 120Hz.

This parameter refers to the number of times the panel is updated per second.

So the higher it is, the smoother scrolling between screens and animations will look.

But activating this option has a disadvantage: it consumes more battery.

Most of the high-end mobiles on the market also reach 120 Hz.

While some large manufacturers like Apple are betting on cameras with few megapixels powered by artificial intelligence, others like Motorola are opting for a greater number of pixels.

Xiaomi has also chosen the second option.

In addition to a 32-megapixel front sensor, the Xiaomi 12 Pro has three rear sensors – main, telephoto and ultra-wide angle – of 50 megapixels each.

In theory, this set takes better night photos, since the Xiaomi 12 Pro can capture 120% more light than its predecessor.

The flagship allows recording in 8K.

Ultra Night Video mode uses algorithms developed by Xiaomi to achieve clearer videos at night.

In addition to improving the performance of cameras in low-light environments, the Chinese brand aims to put an end to "blurry or out-of-focus shots of moving subjects."

The mobile allows 8K recording and incorporates Xiaomi ProFocus technology, designed to recognize all the objects that appear on the scene and choose which one to focus on.

The terminal is compatible with 5G networks and incorporates the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the latest from Qualcomm for the high-end.

Also, it has 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

Its battery is somewhat smaller than that of some of its predecessors.

From the 5,000 mAh of the Xiaomi Mi 11T Pro it goes to 4,600 mAh.

From the company they assure that it is enough to use the device throughout the day and even promise "a life free of battery anxiety".

Manufacturers try to make mobiles that are charged in less time.

For example, Oppo introduced the Oppo Find X5 Pro in February, a phone with a battery that was charged to 50% in about 10 minutes and to 100% in just over half an hour.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro in theory gets even more speed.

With a 120W charger, it is possible to fully charge the phone in just 18 minutes.

The device also features support for up to 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

The little brother of the Xiaomi 12 Pro

The Chinese brand has also presented the Xiaomi 12 on Tuesday, a more compact mobile that, according to the company, "fits perfectly in the palm of the hand."

This terminal measures 15.3 centimeters high, 7 centimeters wide and 8.1 millimeters thick.

In addition, it weighs somewhat less than its older brother -180 grams compared to 205 grams of the Xiaomi 12 Pro-.

The 6.3-inch screen has a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Although the front camera is also 32 megapixels and the main one is 50 megapixels, the Xiaomi 12 is somewhat less ambitious in the photographic section: the ultra wide-angle sensor is 13 megapixels and the telephoto sensor is 5 megapixels.

The phone incorporates the same processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. But in this case it has more variants: 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage.

The battery is 4,500 mAh and the fast charge is 67W.

Like the Xiaomi 12 Pro, this phone also supports 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging.

Xiaomi highlights that both devices take advantage of AdaptiveCharge, an intelligent charging algorithm that learns and adapts to charging habits, which supposedly extends battery life.
