Nissan is preparing for an electric revolution, this is the beginning

They were there before everyone else with the Nissan Leaf becoming the best-selling tram, but fell asleep while everyone else opened a gap.

The lion is supposed to be the absolute answer to them

Slightly fashionable late Nissan shakes off the dust and joins a variety of models in the electric trend, Nissan, which started its electric vehicle revolution about a decade ago, was considered one of the pioneers in the electric world, with the introduction of the Leaf.

Whose first generation was considered a breakthrough at the time, has sold over half a million cars worldwide.

But since then Nissan has not offered any electric model, until the global launch that took place at the del Jarama race track located near Madrid.

So if you are already late for a party then you should knock off a show.

Nissan is storming the electric market with all possible pyrotechnics and showcasing all the possible arsenal in the field of electric vehicles.

The cockroach got a hybrid system, the Qashqai got a "reverse hybrid" system called e-POWER.

A 100% electric motor is the one that runs the wheels while a small combustion engine charges the battery without the need to charge.

The X-ray is expected to feature similar propulsion in the future.

In the field of light commercials there is the TOWNSTAR that will replace the NV200.

And the bride of joy for whose name we gathered, Nissan introduced the new Ariya all electric.

Following Nissan's decision not to invest in the new Euro 7 passenger car standard, Nissan will not introduce a new passenger car powered by internal combustion engines in Europe starting in 2023. Nissan expects that by 2026, 75% of its sales mix in Europe will consist of electric cars, with the aim of reaching To 100% by the end of the decade.

It is doing this, among other things, by investing in the development of new lithium-ion batteries, which will not only be cobalt-free but are also expected to be 65% cheaper by 2028. Today, batteries are produced for their environmental cost and high cost per kWh of potential energy. They are two of the impediments to electric cars,

but not only that, but also investment in the development and production of "solid state" batteries, which are considered the important technological breakthrough in energy storage. When in 2024 the first pilot plant will be built .

Gives in electricity

The del Jarama racetrack knew better days, when it hosted Formula 1 racing in the 1980s, today there are motorcycle racing tracks and rounds of Spanish racing leagues.

There in one of the treatment spaces we got the Nissan Ariya for a few laps on the track.

The first impression can be defined in two words, very impressive.

The Ariya got a new design and is not like its brother from Nissan.

The coupe-like look with narrow LED units on the front, a redesigned logo with lighting, 20-inch rims and a sharply sloping C-beam rear create a harmonious feel and with the right proportions.

Inside, the Japanese approach was chosen, an approach of minimalism and hospitality, with a narrow and designed console with an empty space underneath, touch switches for controlling the original climate engraved on the console and vibrating in touch.

The multimedia system includes a pair of 12.3-inch screens with full pairing for Apple and Android.

The NissanConnect application will allow control and monitoring of battery charging, air conditioning activation, and control of the navigation system.

In the field of safety, the Ariya will be equipped with a ProPilot 2.0 system that presents autonomous driving ability at level 2 and includes, among other things, adaptive cruise control that is synchronized with the navigation system and adjusts the travel speed to road signs.

An autonomous emergency braking system also in reverse and an automatic parking system.

The Ariya is based on a CMF-EV platform adapted for electric vehicles, features decent dimensions and is threaded between the X-Trail and the Qashqai with a length of 459.5 cm, a width of 185 cm and a height of 166 cm. The wheelbase stands at 277.5 cm M allowing three adults to sit in the back seat comfortably.

The volume of the trunk ranges from 408 to 468 liters, depending on the propulsion unit and the size of the battery.

The Ariya will be offered in no less than five different propulsion versions.

The base version includes a 215 hp electric motor with front-wheel drive and a 63 kW battery that provides a driving range of 360 km. Above it is a 239 hp version with front-wheel drive and a 87 kW battery that provides a driving range of about 500 kW km.

In addition, three dual-drive versions will be offered that incorporate an electric motor that will also drive the rear wheels.

One with 63 kWh battery and 278 hp power, one with 87 kWh and 306 hp.

The senior version offers a power of 390 hp and an 87 kW battery that provides a driving range of 400 km. The front-wheel drive versions show acceleration from 0-100 km / h in about 7.5 seconds.

The dual-propulsion versions accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 5.8 seconds.

For the test drive on the track we got a pre-production version with front-wheel drive and a battery with a capacity of 63 kWh. First entry to the driver's seat and there is no doubt that the Japanese hospitality is noticeable and the Ariya is inviting and pleasant. We did the first two laps after the leading vehicle to get to know the track, the Ariya provides linear power and the departure from the place is very quick despite the weight of the vehicle. The position of the battery at the bottom creates a low center of gravity A bit easy.As the speed increases the Ariya gives a stable and safe feeling. The suspensions are calibrated on the stiff side, good for turns, probably less good on the potholes of the roads in Israel after the long winter.

And this is her answer to the variety of electric competitors (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

Summary

The Ariya is Nissan's first modern electric swallow and it can certainly be said that it is a worthy swallow and that Nissan hit a bull in the pony, it combines Nissan's experience in both the crossover and electric field with the Leaf.

Around the corner, competitors such as the draft BZ4X, Hyundai Ionic 5, Renault Megane E TECH, Skoda Aniak and others are already waiting, gaining miles and experience, some already in the country, some on the way.

The tasting was short, but definitely positive.

We will wait for a slightly longer and more challenging launch for models with dual propulsion and more powerful motors in the e-4ORCE technology which makes it possible to combine two electric motors and distribute the power accurately and effectively between the four wheels.

There is something to look forward to.
