Review: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra - Finally A Successful Battery | Israel today

2022-03-29T03:35:30.812Z

Samsung's flagship for 2022 is the Galaxy S22 Ultra • This is a smartphone that simply provides a great user experience, for those who are willing to pay NIS 4,600

Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra marks the end of the beloved Note series, alongside a merger within the S series.

The new model combines the design of the Note alongside the pen embedding in the product, so buyers should enjoy both worlds of the South Korean company's flagship series.

In practice, it seems to be mostly a Note 2022 version device, simply under the name S22 Ultra, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is different in its design from the other S22 models, this device comes in the design of the Note series.

This is a more rectangular, less arched look with a combination of the camera sensors in the body of the device and not inside a prominent structure.

This is a device that is comfortable to hold in the hand, even though it is large and also weighs quite a bit - 228 grams.

Samsung has protected this smartphone with an Armor aluminum body which should provide it with more resistance to falls, fingerprints and scratches.

This material does a good job of reducing fingerprints on the back of the device, but less so in avoiding scratches.

You can also find water protection here in the IP68 standard.

The screen itself is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Plus.

The screens that Samsung incorporates in its flagship models are always successful and the display of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is no different.

This is a large 6.8-inch screen, with a resolution of 1440 by 3088 pixels in Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, which means rich colors with deep black, a high image refresh rate of 120 Hz, which allows smooth movement of the interface, support for HDR10 Plus with supporting content and lighting High rear that reaches up to 1750 rivets.

This figure allows you to watch the screen in direct sunlight without a problem.

Samsung has also incorporated a mode called Outdoor Visibility that allows you to enjoy a better image in direct sunlight, without the display becoming faded.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with the latest version of Android 12 and also the upgraded interface of Samsung - One UI 4.1.

Among the innovations in version 4.1, you can find a choice of how much internal storage you want to use as virtual memory to improve application performance (the choice is between 2, 4, 6 or 8 GB), there is a widget called Smart Widget (or smart widget), it allows to combine Multiple widgets and swipe between them.

This is a convenient way to combine several widgets on one screen, without taking up much space.

Aside from the innovations in 4.1, Samsung's interface still allows calls to be recorded via the dial menu as well as the WiFi Calling service and the Smart Things app for controlling smart products at home.

Processor, great camera and pen

Samsung's flagship devices usually arrive in the country with Samsung's Exynos processors, but this time the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with Qualcomm's latest generation - the Snapdragon 8 generation 1 and that's a great thing.

This is a very fast smartphone, which also includes a very respectable working memory (RAM) of 12 GB.

All of these allow the device to work smoothly and quickly.

This is alongside a 5th generation mobile modem, support for the latest 6E WiFi standard and a fingerprint sensor located below the screen and also it responds quickly and does not miss (Ultrasonic sensor).

The speakers themselves are stereo with a loud and clear sound and also with Dolby Atmos support, which provides a wider sound.

Another innovation in this model, which comes from the Note series is the S Pen.

Unlike last year's Galaxy S21 Ultra, this time Samsung has incorporated a pen storage slot and not just a touch pen support, which this time is also included in the kit.

The S Pen has improved in its response time - 2.8 milliseconds, instead of 9 milliseconds, which provides a natural writing feel, alongside the use of artificial intelligence technology, the pen can better predict which direction it will move during writing.

In practice the pen is easy to use, quick in its response, so anyone who likes to use a pen for writing notes, illustration or even as a remote control for a smartphone, will find its combination for a great solution.

Samsung's camera includes a photo array of 4 sensors: 108 megapixel sensor with optical image stabilizer, auto focus and laser focus with f / 1.8 aperture key, 12 megapixel sensor for wide (120 degrees) photo shooting with auto focus and f / 2.2, 10 megapixel telephoto sensor with dual optical zoom 3 with f / 2.4, optical image stabilizer and auto focus and another 10 megapixel telephoto sensor with dual optical zoom 10, also with optical image stabilizer and auto focus but with f / 4.9.

The selfie camera comes with a 40 megapixel sensor with f / 2.2 auto focus.

In the photography category, Samsung focused on night photography, where thanks to the 108-megapixel sensor and artificial intelligence technology, the Galaxy S22 Ultra knows how to process 4 times more information, which helps improve the sharpness of the image.

In practice this is a very bright image with relatively rich colors, but it can not be said to be sharp.

Aside from night photography, photography in daylight is just great, portrait / portrait photos where the background is blurred behind the object look successful, when I was able to take great pictures of my kids with high sharpness.

Landscape photos were full of details but sometimes the rendering was too noticeable when the colors were rich, as Samsung usually likes to offer in its cameras.

Shooting with the wide sensor managed to produce images that were hardly compromised in quality and the 3 and 10 dual optical zoom managed to surprise with results, but in the 10 double zoom the processing was very noticeable.

The selfie camera was able to produce successful images in daylight, but indoors, it was already having a hard time producing sharp results.

One of the weaknesses of Samsung's flagship devices is the battery, which in most cases does not provide good enough working time.

It seems that in the new model Samsung has solved the problem, among other things, thanks to a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh and proper energy management.

I had the battery from 07:00 until 23:00, when I had another 29% energy left with a screen time of 4 hours.

Samsung offers with this model a 45-watt wired charging and a 15-watt wireless charging, including a 4.5-watt reverse wireless charging.

As usual, Samsung does not include a charger in the kit, so it is not possible to check the actual charging speed.

Price: NIS 4,600.

Bottom line, Samsung have managed to produce a great smartphone.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is a fast device, which includes a very sharp screen, an excellent camera and a touch pen that makes the use of the smartphone more productive.

In addition, Samsung has been able to improve the performance of the battery so that it does not run out at the end of the day.
