Harris, with her distinctive shrill voice, was born Estelle Nussbaum in Manhattan, New York on April 4, 1928. She was the youngest of two daughters of Ira and Anna Nussbaum, Polish Jewish immigrants who owned a candy store.
Her acting career began only at a relatively late age, after her children left home, and had success first in commercials and then also in the small and big screen.
Her first significant breakthrough in a major project was a small role in the 1984 film "There Were Times in America."
She then participated in memorable roles in series such as "Night Court", "Married Plus", "Star Trek: Voyager", "Moishe", "Calm Down", and also dubbed in a variety of series such as "Futurama", "Timon And Pumbaa, "The Mask" and many more.
