She faces life imprisonment.

A woman suspected of having shot and killed her companion with a rifle has been indicted and remanded in custody, we learned on Sunday from the Brest prosecutor's office.

The latter specifies that he has opened a judicial investigation on the count of "murder by spouse", after facts which occurred on the night of Thursday to Friday at the home of a couple in the city of Finistère.

Aged 34, the victim's partner admitted "being the sole author" of "two shots fired with a rifle".

Seriously injured, with "bleeding wounds in the head", the almost 30-year-old victim was taken care of by the emergency services in critical condition before dying a few hours later in hospital.

The prosecution evokes "very summary and confused first explanations" from the companion who "could suggest that there had been a marital dispute which resulted in two shots fired by the injured himself and by the spouse".

A dozen firearms seized during the search

However, "the elements provided by the spouse justified that she be placed in police custody for acts of attempted murder by spouse".

A "flagrancy investigation" was entrusted to the departmental security of the Brest police.

Presented to an examining magistrate on Saturday evening, the questioning was put in examination of the head of qualification concerned and placed in pre-trial detention, specifies the parquet floor.

"Throughout her police custody", she "evolved in her statements", before admitting "to be the sole author of the two shots fired using a rifle", underlines the prosecution .

If the prosecution considers that "many gray areas persist", the reasons for the dispute "seem to relate" to "the intimate life of the couple".

Ongoing investigations should provide clarification, according to the prosecution, which indicates that the two partners practiced sport shooting.

A dozen firearms, rifles and handguns, and "a very large number of ammunition" were seized during a search of the home as well as multimedia equipment.

An autopsy of the victim's body will be performed early next week.
