Many motorists nationwide had been waiting for this message: The traffic light coalition wants to reduce fuel prices and therefore announced tax cuts for petrol and diesel.
But exactly this approach is now being questioned by the economic policy spokesman for the Greens.
“We are currently seeing prices at the filling stations of less than two euros per liter.
Why should we subsidize petrol and diesel at this level," Dieter Janecek explained to the "Augsburger Allgemeine".
In addition, it is to be expected that fuel prices will continue to fall due to the release of US oil reserves and corona lockdowns in China.

From Janecek's point of view, it is therefore a mistake to continue to make petrol and diesel cheaper, as this would negate the "guidance effect" of the tax cuts.
"We should better use the money for the tank discount to support households more with the gas bill," emphasizes the Green politician.
So far, the federal government's plans have envisaged reducing energy taxes by 30 cents per liter on petrol and 14 cents per liter on diesel for three months "to the European minimum".
However, it is still unclear when the tax cuts will take effect.
This also applies to the other planned reliefs.
The 9-euro ticket for bus and train should come in June at the earliest.

This measure is initially limited to three months.
It is about reducing energy taxes on fuels "to the European minimum", emphasized Lindner.
The finance minister emphasized that the government must protect the economy and society from the consequences of the war.

In addition, every working citizen in Germany is to receive a one-time energy allowance of 300 euros because of the rising prices.
A relief on income tax is planned, according to a paper published in Berlin on Thursday.
