After months of rumors it happened:

WhatsApp tonight (Thursday) announced a new update called Communities (or "Communities" in Hebrew), which will arrive in the coming weeks and allow people to connect separate groups under one umbrella and in a structure that suits them.

Objective: To alleviate congestion in multi-participant groups.

With the new feature users will be able to receive updates sent to the entire community, and easily organize smaller discussion groups on specific topics.

Communities will also include new and meaningful tools for principals, including 'announcement notices' to be sent to all community members, and control over which groups will be included in it or not.

"Organizations like schools, local clubs and non-profit organizations today rely on WhatsApp to communicate securely and to organize and perform tasks - especially since the epidemic forced us all to find creative ways to work together, when in fact we were apart," a WhatsApp statement said.

"Since the launch of WhatsApp in 2009, we have focused on how we can help people achieve a second-hand face-to-face communication experience when they want to chat with someone or a group of friends or family," WhatsApp added.

"Following the many responses we have received, we believe we can do more to help people have conversations in very active groups of this type."

More options that will come to you

Love to send emoji instead of using words?

WhatsApp has announced that in an update coming in the coming weeks it will launch the “Emoji Comments” feature - respond quickly by marking an emoji next to the message, without flooding the chat with new messages.

This is a feature that has been around for several years on Instagram and Messenger, which are also owned by Facebook, along with other competing platforms.

Also, group managers will get more power, and will be able to remove incorrect or problematic messages from the conversation for all members.

In addition, for the first time (and like in the telegram) WhatsApp will allow you to send files weighing up to 2 GB.

And if you were missing - for the times when a phone call is better than chat messages, another feature that will come is the option for a voice call for up to 32 users with one click, with a completely new design.
