Initially expected for today, the re-ignition of the largest accelerator in the world, the Large Hadron Collider (Lhc) of CERN in Geneva, has been postponed by a few days.
The period currently foreseen for restarting the machine is between 22 and 24 April, according to sources from the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Infn).
This is a physiological slip, linked to the latest necessary checks when a very important update took place on a large machine such as the Lhc accelerator.
The re-ignition will mark an important moment, after the long pause that began in December 2018, necessary to make the particle accelerator even more powerful.
Restarting will be the first important step to see the LHC at work again.
In this first phase, in fact, the particle beams will circulate in the accelerator ring at the injection energy and it will be necessary to wait from June to July for them to be accelerated and the machine to enter full operation.
