"Raising Memory" project (meta)

On Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day, this week, "Ma'aleim Zichron" - a special project initiated by a meta-company in Israel and an organization to launch, aims to connect the younger generation to Holocaust survivors' testimonies, raise awareness that many Holocaust survivors in Israel live in poverty and raise donations.

The project will feature artists, content creators and influencers, who will make available to the audience the heroic stories of Holocaust survivors through Instagram accounts and make their voices heard.

The project is launched this second year against the background of the success of the project last year, in which more than 3 million surfers across social networks were exposed to the stories of the survivors, and raised half a million shekels for Holocaust survivors living below the poverty line through a giving organization.

As part of the project, the leading content creators and artists in Israel came to a series of intimate meetings with Holocaust survivors about the story of their heroism during the war and their lives today.

The stars, who documented the encounters via their smartphones, will host Holocaust survivors in a series of authentic Stroy clips that will be uploaded to their Instagram accounts on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day - and will be broadcast on their profile during Holocaust Remembrance Day.

According to data from the Authority for the Rights of Holocaust Survivors in the Ministry of Social Equality, there are currently 165,800 Holocaust survivors living in Israel, of whom about 50,000 receive an income guarantee - they cannot provide for their essential needs and live in poverty and economic hardship.

In addition, 15,324 Holocaust survivors in Israel died during 2021.

This year, the project was expanded in collaboration with the Director of Society and Youth at the Ministry of Education, in order to help educators deepen their involvement in Holocaust remembrance through social networks.

Schools, youth movements and community centers have been given a dedicated set of activities that will correspond with the project and serve as an innovative and effective learning tool for Holocaust education

. Their, just like the participants in the project, and thus take an active part in the commemoration effort

.

Adi Sofer-Thani, CEO of Meta in Israel: "These years we have the last opportunity to get out of the history books and hear the stories of Holocaust survivors first hand.

But in the reality of a vanishing generation, the traditional commemorative enterprise must reinvent itself - to bridge intergenerational gaps and ensure that these all-important stories continue to be passed down from generation to generation.

Through the tremendous power of social networks, the "Raising Memory" project provides a platform for exciting stories and creates an authentic and unmediated connection between Holocaust survivors, prominent content creators in Israel and the people who watch them every day.

We are excited to help provide a voice and a stage for the survivors, to create the connection between them and the younger generation, where they are, and we hope to encourage discourse, listening, curiosity and awareness of the Holocaust story and the stories of the survivors. "
