The socialist mayor of Canteleu (Seine-Maritime), Mélanie Boulanger, has been indicted for complicity in drug trafficking, announced the Bobigny prosecution.

The elected representative of this city of 15,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of Rouen was also placed under judicial supervision, while one of her assistants was also indicted and placed under judicial supervision, confirming information from the daily Paris Normandie and of the Norman media Le Poulpe.

"The mayor and his deputy have been indicted on counts of complicity, transport, acquisition, possession, unauthorized offer or transfer of narcotics", according to the deputy prosecutor of Bobigny Anne-Laure Mestrallet, who specified that the mayor had was indicted "on April 22" and "the deputy on April 21".

“I know that I am irreproachable”

On October 8, during a crackdown, nineteen people were taken into custody, including Mélanie Boulanger and her deputy.

Their two police custody had been lifted the next day, while the Bobigny prosecutor's office had announced the indictment of eleven people on October 13.

During a press conference after her police custody, Mélanie Boulanger had affirmed to have “no link” with the drug traffickers of her commune.

“I know that I am beyond reproach,” she had said.

Arnaud de Saint-Rémy, lawyer for Ms. Boulanger, explained to AFP that "if we want to have full rights to act, identify the origin of this police custody, request acts of instruction, hearings, handing over of parts, it is necessary to be put in examination ".

“This procedural choice was that of the investigating judge and that suits us very well.

We want to use all the rights that will be available to Mélanie Boulanger to demonstrate her innocence, ”he added.
