Car breakdowns: This is the most common cause

According to ADAC, a car component is the most common cause of breakdowns.
Battery defects remain the number one cause of breakdowns for the ADAC road patrol.
"No component is more often the cause of a breakdown than the starter battery," said the association.
The battery was the problem in a good 46 percent of the 3.5 million breakdowns last year - just as it was in 2020. Even advancing technology has not reduced the problem.
Car battery empty: the most common causes
"Leave the light on, don't close the trunk lid properly, only ever drive short distances so that the battery is not charged on the way - in these cases the fault lies with the car owner," explained the ADAC.
But quality defects and errors in the vehicle electrical system could also lead to battery problems.
“When a vehicle reaches the age of seven, the susceptibility to battery failure also increases.
By then, the battery has usually
reached the end of its life
.” Younger vehicles, on the other hand, have a high proportion of flat tires.
"These are usually the result of driving errors." You can use a simple trick to check how much juice is left in your car battery.
Other common causes of breakdowns in cars
In addition to the battery, the causes of breakdowns are usually the following:
Engine, injection, ignition and sensors
are the causes of breakdowns for 15.5 percent of drivers.
In around 15 percent it was
the body, steering, brakes or chassis
,
at about 10 percent on
generator, starter, wiring or light
,
at 7 percent on the
tires
,
at 3 percent on the
fuel system
.
For the breakdown statistics, the ADAC evaluated 132 vehicle series from 22 brands involving vehicles aged between 3 and 10 years.
