When are drivers considered residents?
You are only allowed to drive in certain cases.
The regulations also apply to cyclists.
A request such as "parking", "going for a walk" or "avoiding the traffic jam" is not enough to rightly enter a "residential free" street.
Contrary to what is often assumed, a resident for the road traffic regulations is not someone who has just any "concern".
Instead, residents and those entitled to use properties in a traffic area are meant, but also their visitors.
Residential free streets: Who is allowed to drive on them?
In addition to friends and acquaintances of the residents
, a “residents free” street can
also be used by
patients from a doctor’s surgery
or
customers from a shop
and used for parking.
The intention to meet is enough.
Whether a resident is actually found is irrelevant.
It also doesn't matter whether you are welcome from the point of view of the visitor.
The request to park or shorten the route does not count as authorization to drive in.
In practice, however, it is often difficult to check whether someone is authorized to drive.
Drivers must indicate their destination during a check.
Unauthorized people have to expect fines – including cyclists
If you are caught illegally on a street with a corresponding sign, you have to pay.
The catalog of fines stipulates the payment of
55 euros
for driving on the road with a car .
Incidentally, the regulations in resident free streets
also apply to cyclists
.
Cyclists who drive through illegally face a fine of
25 euros
.
If you park, you have to reckon with a ticket, the height varies from city to city.
