The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports
113,522 new infections
within 24 hours.
That is 23,276 fewer cases than on Tuesday last week, when 136,798 corona infections were reported.
The nationwide
seven-day incidence
drops to
632.2
from 666.4 the previous day.
240 other people
died in connection with the virus.
This increases the number of reported deaths to 135,701.
Yesterday, the RKI had not reported any new fatalities in its daily statistics for the first time since September 2021.
However, this is also related to the day of the week, on Mondays the absolute numbers are always comparatively low.
In addition, the RKI announced yesterday evening that the prescribed isolation for corona infected people can usually end after five days in the future - with a "strongly recommended" negative test at the end.
This is what new guidelines of the RKI provide.
Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach confirmed that the isolation should continue to be ordered by the health authorities.
Contact persons of infected people should be strongly recommended in the future to reduce contacts for five days.
So far, the secretions have usually lasted ten days and can be ended prematurely with a negative test after seven days.
The federal states determine the specific regulations according to the recommendation.
Lauterbach made it clear that most should implement this line.
Several countries have already announced new regulations.
Overall, the minister spoke of a “solution with a sense of proportion”.
On the basis of the shorter course of the disease in the current Omicron variant BA.2, the isolation can be reduced to five days.
Shorter deadlines for hospitals demanded
The CEO of the German Hospital Society (DKG), Gerald Gaß, also demands that the isolation of corona infected people be reduced to five days with subsequent free testing for medical staff.
»The shortening of the isolation period is correct.
We also advocate that employees in medical facilities have to take a free test.
The protection of particularly vulnerable groups is important here.
This also applies to outpatient care services," says Gass of the "Rheinische Post".
At the same time, he calls for the facility-related compulsory vaccination to be suspended.
"The employees in the hospitals cannot be explained why they are banned from working if they are not vaccinated, while the majority of their Covid patients are not vaccinated."
