Actresses Glenn Close and Niv Sultan are interviewed by Sagi Ben-Nun for Walla! Culture, ahead of the second season of the "Tehran" series by Here and Apple TV Plus, starring (Walla!)

"I think Niv Sultan will be one of the most beloved actresses in the world, she has an amazing future" - she told Walla!

The culture of the huge actress and winner of two Emmy Awards and eight Oscar nominations, Glenn Close.

The Hollywood star said these things in a special zoom interview (watch above) on the occasion of joining the second season of the spy thriller "Tehran" here 11 in collaboration with Apple TV Plus (the first two episodes will air on Thursday at 21:15 here).

Glenn, when you were preparing for the position of Mossad agent, was there anything that surprised you about the Mossad or Israel?

"Yeah. The fact that they're so good at what they do, and that they did things that no one is aware of. There's something about the first season, that it breaks and shuts down the whole network, so I went to our director Danny, and when I saw him, I asked him, 'Really? Really? "And he said, 'They've done it!'

Sultan: "I had no idea."

You play in a psychiatric series.

"I do not think of my work as being on the psychologist's couch. I think of it as an imagination rather than a kind of treatment. I do think it is very important to try and focus in the moment. You know, what was happening at that moment, where you came from, what the weather was, what "Time of day. Things like that. In an exercise like this you can come up with something very specific that is very real. But I do not analyze things like a psychiatrist. I actually do not know if this is true. We actually do analyze our characters."

Sultan: "But not on the set, maybe before."

Niv, what did you learn from working with Glenn Close?

"So much. First of all, I do not reveal her secrets. I got some, but I do not find out. You know, I got an amazing opportunity to see up close how she analyzes and thinks and makes decisions, and at the same time enjoys so much, and celebrates every moment. She celebrates "Every moment. Every moment is bigger than life when it does. And I can only look and learn."

Glenn, where do you see Niv in 20 years?

"I think Niv in 20 years' time will be one of the favorite actresses in the world. I think she has an amazing future."

Sultan: "Wow, I hope so."

Glenn, you'd been nominated for an Oscar eight times.

Were you disappointed that you did not win the figurine?

"No. You know, it's very annoying to me when people think you might be a loser because you did not win eight times. I think, what, it's a crazy way of thinking. I still feel great honor to be in the room, at this point in my career. .

The movie "Fateful Courtship" had an alternative ending.

Which finish do you prefer, the alternative or the original?

"I was really connected to the original, because I feel like the research I did with psychiatrists about why she behaved the way she did ... I think this is a woman who was abused at a very young age and I think she was obviously more self-destructive than psychopathic. So it was very "It's unfortunate for me when I had to change the ending and become someone with a knife. I don't think it's her character. But I think the new ending made it a big hit."

Danny Sirkin: "I think it's crazy to approach a person you know will eventually be eliminated"

Director Danny Sirkin after the "Tehran" series of Here 11 directed by him won the award for best drama series at the International Emmy Awards for 2021, held in New York (Photo: PR)

In "Tehran", the winner of the drama award in the Emmy competition, alongside Sultan and Close, Sean Taub and Sharbin Albani also play.

The creators of the series are Moshe Zonder, Maor Cohen and Dana Eden, who also produces alongside Shula Spiegel, co-creators Omri Shenhar and Danny Sirkin, who also signed the direction, and Zonder and Shenhar are also the main screenwriters.

The plot of the second season begins two months after hacker Tamar Rabinian (Sultan), who was sent by the Mossad under a false identity to a mission in hostile Tehran, managed at the last minute to expose her operator's betrayal, preventing the downing of Israeli Air Force planes attacking the Iranian reactor.

Tamar stands together with the one who has become her partner, the regime opposes Milad Kahani (Rabin Allenby), at the heart of a particularly dangerous and complicated operation.

Iran continues to declare its striving to create a bomb, and Tamar implements a plan that includes infiltration into the world of so-called "rich kids," the sons and daughters of Tehran's rich and senior regime officials.

Danny Sirkin, the series' director and co-creator, told Walla!

Culture how they got to Glenn Close.

"We wrote a character for a Western woman who has lived in Iran for many years, converted to Islam, and now she is disappointed with the regime and decides to work with the Mossad to improve the country she lives in. When we started talking to Apple about casting, her name came up pretty quickly. "And listen, it was a crazy journey because Glenn is first and foremost an amazing actress, she brings depth, mystery and her famous eyes to this season. Besides, on a personal level she is an amazing person and a lot of fun for us."

Dana Eden, producers and producers of the series: "Glenn also pushed us to be excellent. When there is someone like her on the set you have to be great."

I understand that Close also asked that she have as many lines in the Persian language in the text as possible, which she studied especially for the purpose of filming.

Sirkin: "It's true. We had a lot of phone calls until she came to Athens and she kept saying, 'I want more Persian.' "Our and her goal was that when she spoke Persian a Persian man would say - this woman is British who speaks Persian well. And I think she succeeded."

In addition to learning the Persian language for the role, Close's departure from her comfort zone was also reflected in the fact that you filmed the series for a period in Athens, with a Greek and Israeli team and Israeli and Iranian actors.

Eden: "Yeah, for her it was a really new experience. I think when she came to the set, she was also surprised by our way of working - we're much faster and more frantic than she's used to in Hollywood productions. And she flowed with it completely. We were very surprised how easy it was in the end. "Nothing to work with, and how much it flowed. It was wonderful."

"Glenn and Niv really liked each other in the filming," says Sirkin. Niv plays with Glenn, and we are working on this, Dana is the creator, I am the director, we are all doing an international Israeli series together, it was amazing. "

"This season is going to be bigger, more suspenseful, more complex, more international," Eden adds.

"It is very exciting. This week I was walking on Seventh Avenue in New York, and suddenly I saw a huge sign of 'Tehran' in front of my eyes. I think this is the first time that an Israeli production has experienced such a thing and reaches such international resonance and success and it is exciting."
