Will there be a speed limit on Germany's autobahns?
According to a Forsa survey, the majority of motorists are in favor of it.
Cologne – In the past there have always been discussions about a speed limit on German autobahns.
But still applies: "Free travel for free citizens".
With this slogan, the ADAC mobilized against the upper limit, which was unpopular among its members, in the early 1970s.
In the meantime, however, opinion has changed and more and more Germans are in favor of a general speed limit.
Accordingly, 57 percent of drivers are in favor of a speed limit of 130 km/h on German autobahns.
This was the result of a Forsa survey commissioned by "RTL" and "n-tv".
One of the best-known supporters of a speed limit is Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel (34).
And Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (52, Greens) also campaigned for it.

Speed limit on the Autobahn: Majority of Germans in favour
39 percent of respondents spoke out against a speed limit.
This means that little has changed compared to a survey from October 2021, as “rtl.de” reports.
However, a Forsa survey commissioned by Targobank in March revealed a significantly higher level of approval.
It is also interesting that the majority of supporters of the SPD, the Union and above all the Greens support a speed limit.
The situation is different with the FDP and the AfD.
Here most supporters are against the introduction of a speed limit on the motorways.
Speed limit on the Autobahn: traffic safety as the main reason
But what speaks for a speed limit on Germany's autobahns?
For most respondents to the Forsa survey by "RTL" and "n-tv", more safety on the road (85 percent) is the main reason.
This is followed by reducing CO2 emissions (76 percent), saving fuel because of the Ukraine war (52 percent) and noise protection (34 percent).

The Automobile Club Europa - which even demands 100 km/h - also stated that a speed limit would also affect oil imports from Russia, a view supported by 38 percent of respondents.
Whether there will be a speed limit remains to be seen.
Transport Minister Volker Wissing (51, FDP) gave the supporters little hope.
The curious reason for his cancellation: There are not enough Tempo 130 signs!
