A teenager and a young adult drowned on Saturday off the beaches of Narbonne the day after a warning from the Aude prefecture against a "strong swell" phenomenon on the coast, firefighters announced.
“A 17-year-old minor and an adult in his twenties” died while a third person who was with them was able to be rescued and is in “relative emergency”, according to the Aude firefighters .
The three people were some 150 meters from the beach and could not be saved in time despite the presence of a pair of rescuers, according to the firefighters.
Swimming is also not recommended in Hérault, Gironde and Charente-Maritime
On Friday, the Aude prefecture warned of dangerous conditions in the Mediterranean.
"Dangerous swimming, strong swell expected on the Aude coast," she tweeted.

The prefectures of Hérault, Gironde and Charente-Maritime in particular have also advised against swimming this weekend on the coast due to dangerous weather phenomena.
