The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports
39,705 new infections
within 24 hours.
That is 19,014 fewer cases than on Thursday a week ago, when 58,719 corona infections were reported.
The nationwide
seven-day incidence
drops to
262.6
from 281.8 the previous day.
136 other people died
in connection with the virus.
This increases the number of reported deaths to 138,779.
Because of the public holiday on Thursday, the RKI published its weekly report on Wednesday in addition to the daily figures.
However, in a greatly abbreviated version.
According to the RKI, corona infections and hospital admissions continue to decline significantly.
The RKI reported in its report for the period from May 16 to 22 that the seven-day incidence had fallen by 28.8 percent compared to the previous week.
It registered 350 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.
The highest seven-day incidences among the federal states were registered in Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen and Lower Saxony.
The number of infections reported per week fell from 408,406 to 290,885.
In view of these numbers, however, the RKI still assesses the risk to the population as high.
Hospital admissions have been falling steadily since a peak in mid-March, the report said.
The number of deaths is also steadily decreasing.
Vaccination has not lost its importance, emphasized the RKI.
It was only on Tuesday that the Standing Vaccination Committee (Stiko) recommended a corona vaccination for healthy children aged five to eleven.
Among the Corona lines, Omikron BA.2 clearly dominates with 96.4 percent, but their share has decreased slightly.
BA.5's share has roughly doubled, from 1.2 to 2.5 percent.
Only a fraction of the positive tests for individual lines are evaluated.
In addition, these dates refer to the 19th calendar week (9-15 May).
