Apple's announcement event last night (Monday) as part of the annual developer conference, WWDC 2022, also brought with it bad news for owners of the company's old devices, who will not be able to update the new operating system, iOS 16, when it launches this fall.
Apple is releasing the iPhone 6S models, which were launched in 2015, and the iPhone 7 and iPhone SE first-generation models, which were launched in 2016, from the update cycle for the iOS operating system.
However, at least for now they will continue to receive regular security updates.

Overall, the move is quite predictable, as the devices have received support for Apple's operating systems for 6-7 years - respectively.
However, this is a significantly longer time frame than smartphones running the Android operating system, with only recently the various manufacturers, including Google and Samsung, starting to guarantee up to 5 years of updates.
Want to upgrade to the new operating system?
You will need to have at least an iPhone 8 model, or a second generation iPhone SE (2020).
