Joshua is also known for his political activities in which he has expressed great criticism of Israel's policy in Judea, Samaria and Gaza since 1967 and is one of the signatories of the Geneva Initiative.

Towards the end of the Second Lebanon War, he attended a press conference with David Grossman and Amos Oz in which he called on the Israeli government to agree to a ceasefire and not to expand the fighting in Lebanon as it subsequently decided.

Referring to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 2002, he said at a conference at the Alma College of Culture in Tel Aviv: "We have already seen what happened to the Germans."

Following the criticism he provoked, Joshua explained his intention: "I did not make a comparison between Israeli-Palestinian relations and the actions of the Nazis, but I ask myself a question that we must ask: what is the interaction between us and other peoples that creates such rational hatred? What brought the Germans and what brings "The Palestinians for such hatred towards us? I look anxiously at what suicidal hatred the Palestinians treat us. The Germans also treated us with the same kind of hatred. This is something that needs to be clarified, what is happening between us and other peoples in which we live."
