Swiss airspace was closed to commercial aircraft on Wednesday morning.
The reason was a technical fault in air traffic control, as the responsible company Skyguide in Geneva announced.
The IT network is affected, said a spokesman for the German Press Agency.
The ban will remain in place until the issue is resolved.
How long that should take was initially unclear.
