Today, June 20, is the signal for the great freedom of middle and high school students, ten days later on July 1, these will also be the elementary school students who went on the great freedom.

However, along with the two-month period in which they are not in the school framework, also comes the "hot season" of injuries in road accidents.



In 2021, 17 adolescents and children aged 0-19 were killed in the summer months, an increase of three deaths compared to the figure of 2020. This joins 166 children and adolescents of these ages killed in the last decade in accidents in the summer months (June, July, August).

An average of 17 deaths each year, one death each week.

Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics show that 2021 was a record year in the number of youth and children seriously injured in road accidents.

143 of them were recorded last year, with the closest one being 2017, then 137 were seriously injured and 2016 with 136. As a rule over the last decade there has been an upward trend in data when 2012 from which the measurement started was the lowest with only 91 seriously injured.



Also by segmenting the number of casualties by months, August is the deadliest (5,067 casualties per decade), followed by July (4,662) and June (4,431 casualties).

The reasons included in the report: lack of framework, atmosphere of freedom and inaction are the main contributors to the high number of casualties. Another increase in the afternoon and early evening - between 18:00 and 21:00.

Lawyer Yaniv Yaakov, CEO of the Green Light Association: "The summer months and the big vacation are a period of time in which children and teenagers are at high risk of being injured in a car accident.

vacation, increase the risk of children and teenagers being injured in road accidents. "
