Matthias Malmedie was allowed to drive long distances with the McLaren 765LT.

He calculated the cost of the “joy ride” on his YouTube account.

Cologne – For many car fans, being able to drive a sports car like the McLaren 765LT is a dream.

The fact that you can cover a distance of almost 600 kilometers without paying a cent for petrol should be unimaginable for most.

Also for Matthias Malmedie (46), but that's exactly what the grip moderator was allowed to do, as he revealed in a video on his YouTube channel.

The fuel costs for the trip were therefore already paid.

Malmedie used the trip to find out what the McLaren 765LT really consumes and what it costs to drive the sports car.

"I really didn't save," emphasized Matthias Malmedie in the video for the "test".

However, he had to hold back a little, because the sports car had mounted winter tires that were "only" approved for speeds of up to 270 km/h.

The grip presenter, who recently taunted the Suzuki Ignis, needed four hours and seven minutes for the distance of 592 kilometers.

"That's a lap time of 143.8 km/h," Malmedie marvels.

Logically, the fuel tank of the McLaren 765LT Spider (click here for the test) is not enough for the entire route, which is why Matthias Malmedie had to drive to the gas station five times.

However, he only takes into account the three refueling stops during the journey, but not refueling after the shoot and at the destination.

Like Peter Zwegert once did, the grip presenter then stands at the white board and calculates what the fun cost.

Overall, the McLaren 765 LT consumed 140.97 liters of fuel worth 311.05 euros.

On average, that's 25.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

"For a car with 765 hp, I think Dortmund is perfect," emphasizes Matthias Malmedie, who commented on accident videos in another video.

But that's not all, the 46-year-old also wants to know how much the sports car consumed per minute and what the kilometer cost him.

When it comes to consumption, he comes up with 0.57 liters per minute, but he assumes that at least a full liter per minute was burned “at peak times”.

He estimates the cost per kilometer at 52 cents.

"That's a blatant number, honestly!", judges Matthias Malmedie.

"Whoever drives a car like that must have a decent credit card."

In the comments below the video, the grip moderator is celebrated for his rather unusual test.

But there is also criticism of his calculations.

“Dear Matthias, you can only omit one bill, namely the first one when you filled up.

So you have to calculate between a full tank at the beginning and a full tank at the end,” writes one user, who gets a lot of approval for this.

But there is also praise and one or two funny comments:

  • "Matthias explains the calculation better than my math teacher."

  • "I'd really like to do a hypermiling with the car... see how far you can get with a full tank."

  • "If you drive like you, such fuel consumption is not a problem."

  • "Go-karting is about the same per minute, then better go 765LT."

  • "Completely stupid, but I think it's cool to just squander fuel."

  • "You can see from the 5 that Matthias would have liked to fill up a sixth time."
