It's a mountain drama, as unfortunately sometimes happens in the Alps.

In Switzerland, on an alpine massif close to both the Italian and French borders.

A roped party fell as it progressed towards the Tête de Milon above Zinal, a Swiss resort in Valais.

Three deaths are to be deplored according to the Swiss police.

The deceased are two Belgian men aged 31, domiciled in Belgium as well as a 28-year-old Frenchwoman domiciled in France.

The groups, well equipped, were not supervised by guides.

Around 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a group of five mountaineers left the Arpitettaz hut (2,786 m) where they had spent the night.

They split the group into two ropes, one of three and one of two.

At some point, on the Crête de Milon, the rope of three that preceded the other rope fell shortly before the Tête de Milon.

The fall occurred at an altitude of around 3,400 m.

Witnesses to the event, the two mountaineers who made up the following team, immediately notified the Arpitettaz hut as well as the emergency services.

An Air Zermatt helicopter and an Air-Glaciers machine quickly arrived on site.

The emergency services could only note the deaths of the unfortunates and proceeded to evacuate the roped party which followed. The Swiss public prosecutor opened an investigation in order to determine the circumstances of this event.
