The first fifty years of the Renault 5 are celebrated in an 'electric' version.
On the occasion of the fiftieth birthday of one of its most iconic models of the past, the French house has fielded a collaboration with the designer Pierre Gonalons, for an electromod project based on the R5.
The result of the project is called Renault 5 Diamant, one-off characterized by a series of unique style features and designed to be auctioned next autumn.
The model with the 'plug' is based on the first generation Renault 5, introduced on the market in 1972, of which maintaining the overall line and most of the body components.
However, many parts have been redesigned, to achieve a slim look and in line with Gonalons' design.
The headlights and taillights, for example, are now protruding from the bodywork and imagined by the designer as 'precious stones'.
The bumpers adopt a simpler design, the grille has been covered, the door handles have been replaced by gold spheres and the original mirrors have been replaced with others in a retro style and with a round shape.
The wheels are inspired by those of the Alpine 'cousins', while the unique exterior specifications include a pink paint with gold pigments and a satin paint, combined with gold and beige accents on the underside of the car.
A retractable black fabric roof completes the project.
If Pierre Gonalons is a French designer and artist recognized among the 100 best creators by Architectural Digest, his declared goal, with the Renault 5 Diamant project, was to "merge automotive codes with those of interior decoration" taking inspiration from decorative arts and jewelry.
And so it is, that it was the interior of the R5 that received the most noticeable changes, starting with the steering wheel in marble and carbon, golden spheres in place of the handles and a central tunnel, also covered in marble.
The dashboard has also been completely redesigned with three round but fully digital dials.
The Renault 5 Diamant, obviously powered by an electric motor, will be auctioned in the autumn and all proceeds will be donated to Give Me 5, a new social responsibility project, between music and sport, dedicated to the younger generations.
