By car to the airport: That's quite convenient - but the parking fees at airports, which are sometimes extreme anyway, have risen sharply again.
In many cases, flying is not really a pleasure at the moment - even when it comes to the long-awaited vacation.
Because at many airports things are currently quite chaotic at times due to a lack of staff.
In addition, travelers usually have to dig much deeper into their pockets for their trip than before the Corona pandemic - for example if they want to book a rental car.
According to a recent survey, parking fees at airports have also increased significantly.

Expensive parking at the airport: A week costs up to 294 euros
The consumer protection association Berlin/Brandenburg (VSVBB) compared the prices at 16 of the largest airports in Germany - and not only found massive differences between the individual airports, but also in some cases enormous price increases compared to the previous year: On average, the prices rose by more than 20 percent.
While in 2021 travelers still had to pay an average of 42 euros per week for the cheapest parking space near the terminal, this year it is already 52 euros on average.
The prices for the most expensive parking spaces rose on average from 143 to almost 177 euros.
Parking at the airport: low prices in Dresden and Leipzig/Halle
According to the evaluation, parking is relatively cheap at Dresden and Leipzig/Halle airports: Travelers can park their vehicles there near the terminal for as little as 15 euros per week.
On the other hand, holidaymakers have to dig deep into their pockets at Dortmund Airport: At least 99 euros are requested there for the same offer.
Parking is also very expensive in Hamburg (89 euros) and in Munich (87 euros).
Incidentally, the latter two cities are also at the forefront when it comes to “normal” parking fees.

Parking at the airport: strange price regulation in Cologne/Bonn
There's a strange pricing regulation at Cologne/Bonn Airport: one hour's parking in the so-called Kiss&Fly zone costs 35 euros - which is 6 euros more than the cheapest car park near the terminal for a whole week.
It is therefore important to find out about the prices thoroughly beforehand and not to react thoughtlessly afterwards, like a British woman who demolished a barrier in the car park out of anger at the prices.
The woman paid dearly for her action.

Parking at the airport: The most expensive parking spaces are in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Hamburg
Speaking of expensive: According to the survey, the most expensive airport parking spaces are by far in Stuttgart: A week can cost up to 294 euros here.
This is followed by Düsseldorf (266 euros) and Hamburg (245 euros) – with lounge access including food and drinks included in the price in Düsseldorf.
The VSBB lists all airport prices in a table.
To save money, the consumer protection association recommends reserving parking spaces online in advance.
The prices at airport car parks that are further away are also significantly cheaper - and it is not uncommon for the corresponding offers to even include a free transfer to the respective terminal in the price.
