From the movie "Triangle of Sorrows" (Cannes Festival)

Back to normal: Two years ago, the Jerusalem Film Festival did not take place because of the corona virus.

Last year it was held later than usual and without guests from abroad, and tonight it kicked off in the presence of Ruben Ostland, one of the hottest directors today, whose penned "Triangle of Sorrows" opened the festival tonight with a screening in front of five thousand spectators at the Sultan's pool.

"Triangle of Sorrows" won Only two months ago at the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival where it had its world premiere, and beyond that it was screened almost nowhere in the world, so its screening in Jerusalem is already a huge achievement for the festival and Israeli film culture.

Besides Ostland, the festival was also attended by President Yitzhak Herzog and his wife Michal Herzog; the Minister of Culture and the Sports Trooper, and the Minister of Construction and Housing and the Minister of Jerusalem and Heritage Ze'ev Elkin.

"Every summer something wonderful happens called the Jerusalem Film Festival," said Michal Herzog, inspired by Natan Yonatan's song.

"The film festival has become a household name, a space that contains such a wide scope, such quality, and so enriching. This festival not only exposes Israeli cinema to those who lead the international film scene; but also succeeds in encouraging local creation, even in its early stages and certainly when it is at its peak; and most importantly, to be a hotbed for a multitude of inspiring activities and meetings in the most authentic sense of the word between creators from Israel and the world. Cinema has the power to take us out of our everyday life, or make us stay within the veins of the soul. It has a wounding but also a healing power. Like all art , in cinema, there is life force in it. This is the reason why art is not some kind of hobby or leisure activity, it must be part of the range of our human behaviors. It must be diverse and accessible to everyone. Go see movies!"

Other guests at the festival are the Attal Gainsbourg family, the aristocratic family of the French cinema world: director Yvan Attal, his partner actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and their common son Ben Attal.

They were not present at the ceremony but will arrive tomorrow at the Cinematheque to present their new and talked about film "The Blame".

The opening ceremony was moderated by Shafra Kornfeld.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon sent a video greeting, and Ruben Ostland received a token of appreciation from the festival.

Apart from the fresh "Triangle of Sadness", the event will also present all his previous films, including the exemplary "The Square" which also won the Palme d'Or, "Higher Power" and others.

The celebration will last for about ten days and it is recommended to prepare tickets in advance because most screenings are almost sold out.

Long live the cinema!
