The essential
The two Gironde fires are no longer progressing this Thursday, but they have already ravaged 20,600 hectares of forest.
Emmanuel Macron went to the affected department, this Wednesday afternoon, to meet the firefighters, the police but also elected officials and volunteers.
The Head of State announced, during his trip, that a "major national project" to replant the forest would be launched quickly.
He also mentioned the possibility of having more Canadair.
Since the start of the week, fires have broken out elsewhere in France, particularly in Finistère, where more than 1,700 hectares of moorland have been burned.
12 departments remain on heat wave orange alert, this Thursday, in the south-eastern quarter of France.

Update on the damage in Gironde
If the two fires are no longer progressing this Thursday, they have ravaged a total of nearly 20,800 hectares of forest: 7,000 hectares in Teste-de-Buch and 13,800 hectares in the Landiras sector, alone representing a perimeter of 66km.

A flash mission on clearing
Asked how to prevent such fires from happening again, Christophe Béchu evokes “the question of clearing”.
“There are plenty of places where the rules on the subject are not applied”, he assures, announcing in passing that a “flash mission” is launched on the question.
He also explains, still on RTL, that if “global warming creates the conditions for fires to start” in “most cases, there are humans at the origin” of the fires.

Difficult to replant forests identically
"It does not seem possible to me" to replant the burnt forests in Gironde identically, judge Christophe Béchu, Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, on RTL.
Because "the species that resist the best are those of the Mediterranean type", he specifies.

The Quimper prosecutor's office has opened two investigations, including one for "deliberate destruction by fire", concerning the two fires which broke out at the beginning of the week in Finistère.
They are now set at 95%, according to the prefecture.
