In the video: an elevator conversation with Coral Bismuth (Editor: Gilad Mann Mannheim)

Nono - status

We have already written about Nono many times, but each time it was amazing to discover how this very unusual phenomenon explodes with greater intensity each time, conquers YouTube and Tiktok and almost instantly turns from a sensation, a network pusher, to a pop star whose new thing must be heard.

And from song to song, not only was an ironic and sophisticated character born that is not entirely clear to what extent it is a parody, but also an original language, which mixes Hebrew and English, full of puns that range from silly to brilliant and combinations that have entered the pantheon (such as "Boker Tsih and Tsah" or "I'm in Ramot").

The character, language and humor managed to connect with much more than anecdotal viral videos, creating addictive pop candy.

Nuno's album is called "Status" - titles that can be read in more than one sense: not only the symbol of the status she reached with the album, but mainly the status from social networks, the area where she flourishes.

It includes almost all the singles she has released so far (without the pride song "Cute Boy", which was left out), and all the other favorite hits, from "Living the Dream", "Boys", "Goliath 2" and the rest, along with a few new songs and a few clips link

Among these, it is worth mentioning "Covid 19", one of the funniest songs written about the epidemic, and another proof of how well Nono articulates the moment in which it operates.

In conclusion, this is one of the most enjoyable albums of the past year: the smile does not leave the face for almost a moment, and the hand is easy on the repeat.

The album closes with a cover version of the song "Sud", in which she hosts the previous performers of the song - Adam and Roni Duani, with the production, as in the entire album, by Amon Ilai Ashdot - the son of Alona Kimchi and Yezhar Ashdot who created the song.

It's not the brightest moment on the album, but simply a cute multi-generational gesture, but the main thing is the statement of intentions: Nono, who belongs and doesn't belong at the same time to the assembly line of Israeli pop, takes it upon herself here not only to laugh at this tradition but to be a part of it.

Welcome.

Daniel San Creaf - There is nowhere to return

Danielle Sun Criaf broke into our lives as a singer who introduced new energies and colors into Tipex's machine ("Potential Water"), with a special tone of voice and bursting power.

Then came an intriguing debut album ("It's my turn to say"), but also a bit scattered.

We wrote then that she clearly has a lot more to give, and now it's time to prove it.

Three years after that album, Kriaf teamed up with musician Tomer Yosef (Balkan Beat Box, The Back Yard) to produce the new album, which answers to the name "There's a place to return", and it seems that there is a crack here: the connection between the two feels natural and required.

Between electronic games and an addictive Israeli groove and a lot of soul, there are quite a few songs here that require the body to move, and many opportunities to admire Kriaf's extraordinary voice.

A particularly strong sequence begins in the third song and continues throughout the entire stomach of the album - the bouncy "I want" the personal "Sensitive (Ando)", the fine duet "Olam Kazu" with Yosef, "Honor" which combines East and West and the reggae section "Money".

It's a diverse, human, bouncy, sweeping sequence and above all - wholeheartedly.

All you need is just to press play and let yourself be addicted.

Kobari - "Red Gold"

We've gotten used to Kobari coming up with materials that are no less than excellent, and even in the fifth album of the group led by Abigail Kobari and her musical partner Ziv Zak, they continue to renew, excite, give head and hit the target.

As someone who is used to washing all her personal laundry in her songs, in the new album she processes, more than ever, the general situation as well, the one that requires courage to scratch it: the existential tension of life under the conflict in "Lost in the Heart of the Woods", the descent into the shelters in Tel Aviv in Operation " "Guardian of the walls" in the song "Breaking it down", battle shock in "My brother dreamed yesterday about Gaza" (lyrics: Yael Statman) - and as usual, she writes and composes these songs in an original and not clichéd way, as sometimes happens when writing about such topics.

"Obviously I'm jealous of other singers, but luckily today it happens less"

In collaboration with the lottery

Rather, two other personal songs steal the show: "Alessandro", a beautiful story about home and wandering, art and craft, settlement and escape;

And above all, "Crying in a Cafe", an instantly anthemic ballad, which in four minutes describes a very intimate and at the same time collective scene, bringing the listeners into it, with the strings of the Tenenbaum Foundation intensifying the drama that takes place in a charged conversation between two women, a mother and a daughter, watched by an entire cafe .

Red or not red, it's gold.

Coral Bismuth - "Street Songs"

If you make an effort, you might remember Bismuth from an unforgettable performance in the first season of "The Voice", "The Duel" with Or Edi to the song "Dear Mother" by Dodo Aharon.

Bismuth was dismissed then, but paved her own path, which, as the name of her album suggests, went through singing in the streets.

For several years now you can see her singing at intersections in Tel Aviv, for example in the Dizengoff Center area, always surrounded by her trademark - sunflowers, which also found their way to the new album, her second in number.

The twist in the plot came two months ago, when she managed to attract the attention of Maroon 5 and got the opportunity to perform with them in front of tens of thousands of Israelis.

Shortly after, "Shiri Rehov" was released, in which she tries to prove that this episode was anything but accidental.

The first thing that emerges from listening to this album is how direct Bismuth is: she doesn't hide behind hints or big ideas - but talks in the first person about what she wants and what bothers her, in a positive atmosphere in her hippy voice, and this groovy conversation is so pleasant that you can't help but open up to her the door.

The musical production, which is divided here between Shekel, Itzik Pazati and Eran Goldberg, combines the singer-songwriter sides of Bismuth with a kind of fast singing-talking, on the verge of hip-hop, in what seems natural and almost effortless.

Not every song is sparkling, and it's not that Bismuth is trying to turn the world into her listeners - but when you hear, for example, the radio hit "Lava", all of it is a visible and effortless bursting stream of emotions, it's clear why it works: how fun it is to meet a musician who speaks to you in flowers.
