One of the biggest threats hovering over the earth is an asteroid impact that will wipe out humanity.

In recent decades, NASA has tracked a huge number of asteroids, none of which have yet hit us, but how will we cope if the worst-case scenario happens? The good news is that NASA is working on developing new techniques that can detect a dangerous asteroid before it even hits Earth.

NASA has developed a tool that can calculate the probability of an asteroid hitting the Earth over a period of 100 years. In addition, it is working on a method that can generate a force equivalent to 3 tons, which will move the asteroid away from the Earth's impact path.

The Center for Near-Earth Object Research has outlined different courses of action to take when detecting an approaching asteroid.

Nearly 90% of asteroids that are one kilometer or larger are detectable by NASA and pose no danger.

However, a $240 million mission is expected to launch in September, when, with the help of new technology that is in advanced stages of development, a half-ton spacecraft traveling at a speed of 23 thousand km/h will crash into an asteroid called Dimorphos and is expected to change its course.

According to the Slash Gear portal, launching one nuclear warhead can destroy up to 99% of the mass of a 100 meter asteroid.

Sound familiar to you?

This news has clear similarities to the Netflix movie Don't Look Up, where a pair of scientists tried to warn the public about the imminent danger of an asteroid crashing into the Earth and the US government in response decided to launch a spacecraft towards it (just to name a few They got a little confused, no spoilers).

According to one of the popular theories, millions of years ago the dinosaurs became extinct due to an asteroid collision with the Earth.

It is hoped that NASA will be able to prevent this and save us from doom.
