The individual was arrested Thursday in the Guillotière district, located between the 7th and 3rd arrondissements of the city.

One more will sleep tonight in prison... A third man has been indicted and imprisoned in the investigation into the attack on three plainclothes police officers on July 20 in the Guillotière district of Lyon, indicated this Sunday the public prosecutor's office in Lyon (Rhône).

"Three suspects are currently indicted and detained in connection with this case," said the Lyon prosecutor's office, confirming information from the regional daily Le Progrès.

No other information was provided.

According to the newspaper, the individual was arrested Thursday in this same district, located between the 7th and 3rd arrondissements of the city.

On July 26, the first of the three suspects, a 26-year-old man, in an irregular situation and without a criminal record, was indicted for aggravated willful violence against a police officer and placed in pre-trial detention.

He “did not dispute the facts” and “apologized”, then said Me Laurent Bohé, lawyer for the victims.

On Monday, the second of them, the same age as the first suspect, was also prosecuted for a similar reason and then imprisoned.

A very violent attack

On the evening of July 20, two of the three police officers attacked were injured while trying with their colleague to arrest a person suspected of theft, in the middle of a crowd who had violently attacked them.

Broadcast shortly after on social networks, a video showed the three plainclothes police officers, two men and a woman, being beaten and thrown by projectiles in front of the entrance to a convenience store.

A first suspect had first been arrested and then exonerated.

Security at the Guillotière is the subject of controversy, in particular concerning the strengthening of the municipal police and the installation of video protection cameras, between the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and the environmentalist mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet.

The two men are due to meet in Lyon on September 5 to discuss the situation.
