A smoker sets himself on fire at a gas station (Twitter)

In the footage that comes to us from a security camera at a gas station in Chelyabinsk, Russia, a guy can be seen lighting a cigarette while refueling - and engulfing his car in flames.

In the video taken in the western Russian city, a guy - probably not very smart - is seen standing next to his car while it fills up with gas and waits.

It is not clear if the boredom is the habit, but while he is leaning against the car - right next to the gas filler - the guy decides to light a cigarette, which any person with a bit of sense would avoid doing.

Of course, within seconds, a fire breaks out there, driving him away from the vehicle.

The frightened guy slips back and then returns to the car and pulls out the pump - causing it to burst into flames as well.

As a curious bystander watches what is happening, the man is seen running around the back of the car and trying to get into the vehicle.

While the car was engulfed in flames, the man, dressed in a white t-shirt and dark shorts, seems to manage to slide into the driver's seat, start the car - and drive out of the flames just like in a Hollywood action movie.

It is not clear if starting a car that is on fire is a smart thing, but luckily he manages to get his car away from the pump and only then returns there to put out the fire.

By the time he runs back and turns on the fire extinguisher, the fire has subsided on its own and he only uses it to put out the remains.

The video was posted on the Nexta social media channel, went viral and received over a quarter of a million views.

"We live in an intelligent, educated society, an example to the whole world," wrote one sarcastically in the comments and another added: "He saved his car, but he lost his brain a long time ago."

Others took the opportunity to refer to the Russia-Ukraine war: "Unfortunately, it wasn't a Russian tank," wrote one, and another added: "It's Russia. I expected the fire extinguisher to not work at the end either."

Another person wrote: "The Russians have nuclear weapons. What could possibly go wrong...".
