Because a speed tourist gets away with no punishment after driving a Bugatti too fast on the A2, lawyers are suggesting a speed limit of a different kind.
It was a hit on social media: driving a Bugatti Chiron on a German Autobahn at 417 km/h, almost the top speed of the 1,600 hp coupe.
Of course, the criticism was even greater than the enthusiasm, and there were even legal proceedings against the driver – which, as expected, had to be stopped.
After all, the Czech billionaire had not violated any law on the A2.
Because although a majority of Germans and celebrities like Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel (35) are in favor of it, it is well known that there is no speed limit on German autobahns.
Fast enough: Lawyers suggest a speed limit of 200 km/h on German autobahns.

Now a proposal from the lawyers involved in the case could bring new impetus to the debate.
It comes from the Saxony-Anhalt public prosecutor's office, which (like the responsible colleagues in Stendal before) saw no means of combating the speeder.
"It may seem extremely reckless and suicidal," she is quoted as saying by
Der Spiegel
, driving at almost 116 meters per second, but it is not a criminal offense.
"There were no indications that could be used as evidence that the trip in the individual case was grossly contrary to traffic and reckless."

This is exactly why the public prosecutor's office considers a speed limit to be sensible.
However, not 120 or 130 kilometers per hour, as is currently being discussed, but a whopping 200 km/h.

This, so the argument goes, would still allow very fast driving – but not an excessive speed that is far above the take-off speed of military jets.
