He pushed aside the bars of his cell before climbing the facade.
A detainee from the Périgueux remand center (Dordogne) escaped on Wednesday taking advantage of work taking place in the prison.
His escape was not noticed until ten hours later, says France Bleu.
Thanks to the video surveillance images, the guards noticed that around 4 a.m., the young man pushed aside the bars of his cell on the second floor, which he shared with another inmate.
Tissues in a ball hidden under his sheets
Aged in his twenties and convicted of cases of traffic offences, linked to narcotics, as well as violence and outrages, he climbed the perimeter wall using metal rods installed for the works .
To deceive the vigilance of his guards, the young man had hidden fabrics in a ball under his sheets and his fellow prisoner took charge of his meal tray at lunchtime, says France Bleu again.
Thursday evening, the detainee had still not been arrested.
An internal investigation has been opened by the prison administration and the judicial police are looking for the young man.
According to the Périgueux prosecutor's office, this escape is the second in the history of this remand center.
The first time dates back to February 2021: two Moldovan detainees had cut the bars of their cell using a homemade saw mounted on a broomstick, before climbing onto the roof to escape.
