The Harman Automotive Company (HARMAN), a subsidiary owned by Samsung, which develops and sells products and software solutions for the automotive industry, for companies and private consumers worldwide, announced today (Tuesday) the purchase of CAARESYS - an Israeli startup company that develops radar-based passenger monitoring systems in cars that can save lives .

According to market estimates, this is a deal worth tens of millions of shekels.

Founded in 2017, CAARESYS has successfully partnered with leading OEMs in the global automotive industry and provides a solution for in-car passenger monitoring, including sensing vital signs (heart rate and breathing) and detecting and monitoring passengers and children inside the vehicle (for example, notification of forgetting children, or dogs, in the car).

In fact, more than 50 million cars on the road today are equipped with Harman audio systems and connected car systems, and Harman's software services power billions of systems and mobile devices, when they are linked and secured across all the platforms they operate on, from work, through the home to the car and mobile.

The solution from CAARESYS will strengthen Harman's range of vehicle solutions, based on Harman's digital cockpit solutions and advanced driving support systems (ADAS).

The ability to monitor and receive vital signs of the driver and passengers, based on CAARESYS technology - including receiving insights in real time will allow Harman to offer new levels of safety, comfort and well-being in the vehicle in its growing product line.

CAARESYS' technology uses passenger "size" detection capabilities and vital signs to identify the location and health status of each passenger in the vehicle.

The sensing system is non-invasive and based on a tiny radar (RF) that can be integrated anywhere in the car.

Using a sophisticated signal processing algorithm, the system detects car seat occupancy and monitors the passengers' vital signs, including breathing rate, heart rate and heart rate changes.

The technology enables extremely accurate sensing even in the constantly changing driving environment and it can operate while the car is stationary as well as while driving.

"With the purchase of CAARESYS, we gain radar sensing technology in the passenger compartment, which is the market leader. This technology will quickly be integrated into our products," said Christian Sobotka, president of the automotive division at Harman.

"The car manufacturers who join us will be able to enjoy the safety features and the well-being of the occupants of the car, capabilities that consumers demand today."

"We are proud to join the Harman team, especially at this time when the company is doing so much to change what the passenger cabin experience can offer to consumers," says Ilya Slovats, co-founder and CEO of CAARESYS, who will lead the new radar-based solutions development team established in the offices Herman Behod Hasharon.

"A digital cockpit is about the ability to combine products and technologies in accordance and closely with the preference of the driver and passengers and for the benefit of creating a new and more efficient driving experience," explains Michal Geva, CEO of Harman Israel. "Harman recognizes that Israel is an excellent place to find technological innovation.

We are proud to add the CAARESYS employees to the automotive division and anticipate an increase in activities following the purchase and the assimilation of the technologies in the company's various products."
