Relatively stable seven-day incidence: According to the RKI, corona infections are no longer declining

Apparently the positive trend is over. After seven weeks of declining numbers, the Robert Koch Institute is reporting a stagnant level of Covid-19 cases. This also applies to serious illnesses.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the long-lasting decline in corona infections in Germany is no longer the case.

The nationwide seven-day incidence, for example, remained relatively stable compared to the week before last, “after it had previously declined for seven weeks”.

This emerges from the Covid 19 report by the Berlin institute, which mainly refers to the previous week.

In addition to the incidence, which is only meaningful to a limited extent, the RKI also looks at a number of other indicators.

Even with severe Covid 19 diseases, for example, the downward trend did not continue according to the data.

When it came to the number of intensive care patients affected, there was talk of a plateau.

According to the RKI, the number of known cases of infection in Germany had recently increased by

46,514

cases to over 32.6 million within a day.

That was 4,457 more cases than on Thursday last week, when 42,057 cases were reported.

The seven-day incidence rose to

244.4

from

236.2

the previous day.

The RKI recorded 230 more deaths related to the corona virus.

The known total is 148,728.

In general, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.

Comparisons of the data are also only possible to a limited extent due to the test behavior, late registrations and transmission problems.

In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
