At the IAA Transportation commercial vehicle and logistics trade fair, Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) spoke out in favor of the parallel ramp-up of several climate-friendly drive types - not just for the purely battery-powered electric motor.
"We want to keep all areas of technology open," he said on Wednesday evening during a tour of the exhibition in Hanover.
There Wissing visited, among other things, the automotive supplier Bosch, where he was presented with concepts ranging from e-cargo bikes to e-scooters and battery-powered trucks to fuel cells for long-distance heavy goods traffic and hydrogen combustion engines.
"We need diversity," Wissing said about different forms of use, ranges and infrastructure investments in road freight transport: "Long-distance truck transport is something different from cars.
That's why we are open to technology.« Bosch manager Jürgen Häusser pointed out that politicians must promote the expansion of commercial vehicle charging stations and, in the future, hydrogen filling stations accordingly: »We also need the right framework conditions.
We can't get any further without an infrastructure.«
More than 1400 exhibitors will take part in the industry meeting until Sunday.
Central topics are alternative drives, digital networking and concepts for the growing delivery traffic in cities.
The energy crisis also determines many discussions.
On Tuesday, at the Innotrans railway technology fair in Berlin, Wissing warned against going backwards in climate protection, including in rail transport.
“This development is extremely worrying.
It would set us back years on the way to a climate-neutral rail.«
